During the period 1986-1989 in the experimental field of Pinar del Rio University, irrigation regime of burley tobacco varieties “Ky-17” and “Burley- 37”, with four moisture levels on a Ferrallitic Quartzite Yellow Lixiviated soil was studied. The tobacco was irrigated by furrow technique, using hose. The optimal treatment was obtain when the soil moisture descend to 75-75-70 % of field capacity in the phase transplant to 9/10 leaves, 9/10 leaves to first harvest and from first harvest to last harvest.
In this treatment the total yield and exportable tobacco was of 2003 and 1732 kg/ha for Ky-17 variety and 1702 and 1500 kg/ha for Burley-37 variety. The average total water requirement was 1351 m3/ha for an application of seven irrigation with a distribution of: three, two and two in each crop phase respectively. The evapotranspiration was 216 mm in Burley-37 and 228 mm in Ky-17 for a cultivation cycle of 85 days
