Heavy rains from September 9 in the State of Colorado as a consequence of the combined action of various meteorological factors within and outside the territory of the United States of America have caused widespread flooding , the loss of 8 lives and extensive damage economic estimated at one billion dollars , so it is necessary to further evaluate the effects of rainfall which caused the flow of internal waters and the effects of the rains that were for external water in the affected areas . Should be improved from the new record rainfall, the calculation of internal drainage in cities as well as clean and give more section to the channels used to drain excess water .
The floods in the state of Colorado in the United States began September 9, 2013 with heavy rains and severe flooding that affected the counties Front Range , Colorado Springs and Fort Collins , the bad weather intensified greatly damaged the county Boulder where the September 12 saw a record rainfall of 231 mm . The floods affected 17 counties in the State of Colorado and several counties in the states of Kansas and Wyoming.
According to the Climate Center , the rain that fell from 9 September to 15 September in Boulder County , Colorado , happened to have one of its driest years its more humid with an annual accumulated precipitation of 766 mm , of whose 231 mm corresponds to the day September 12 which was a record for a single day, almost double the previous record of 122 mm set on July 31, 1919 . The main street in Boulder , Baseline was a torrential river and Boulder Canyon , the Grand Canyon that goes in and out of the city had increased greatly the water level. The record is especially noteworthy because since before September 9 in Boulder , along with much part of eastern Colorado , still lived in drought conditions in the long term with a cumulative rainfall of 305 mm . This authorized federal search and rescue teams, as well as supplies such as food, water, cots, generators, and emergency flood control measures.
