Juan G. R., Garcia B. M. and Juan G. R. Some considerations on the production in little agricultural area.

During the period 1991 to 1995, under the conditions of production of little parcels in the City of Havana, in Ferrallitic red and Sandy Loam transported soils was conduced a study on: the planning of crops, agricultural strategy, the use of existing resources, support family work and hold of people per unit area.
The average annual precipitation in the study area is 1146 mm with a distribution of rainfall: 187 mm for winter, 312 mm for the spring, 344 mm for the summer and 303 mm for the autumn. The rainfall in the coastal is littler than the centre of the island since the Cuban average annual rainfall is 1400 mm. In the cultivation of vegetables were used normal irrigations, in the viands, grains and fruit were used water management with deficit irrigation. Also were cultivated small areas for medicinal plants and spices.
We found that when a rational exploitation of the crops and resources, it is possible to hold 90 people / hectare / year from the production of viands and vegetables, with a supplement in the diet of grains and fruits. By reducing the planting areas of vegetables and viands and increases the grain and fruit, can be considered as an alternative to sustain 60 to 70 inhabitants / hectare / year from the production of viands, vegetables and grains, with a supplement in the diet of fruit, excluding in both cases the consumption of rice and wheat.
