Water is abundant in San Salvador but as soon arrives, it loses

El Diario de Hoy, San Salvador, March 21, 2012

The water problem in San Salvador is becoming widespread: more and more communities are being left without enough water, deforestation is drying rivers and springs, there are not proper water policy, the experience is always better to build: dams, ponds, reservoirs, wells and ponds.

Olomega residents in La Union, are without water and to supply, rely on a few families who have drilled wells to provide fresh water. The rest of the holes, told our editors, reach saltwater sheets, that should be sealed again. The trouble is that the water problem in San Salvador is becoming widespread: more and more communities are being left without enough water, for two reasons: First, that deforestation is drying rivers and springs, leaving only broken that in winter are filled water, the deforestation, is an ancient evil that accelerated with the agrarian reform of the Eighties and the distribution of land to the “demobilized”: those people with do not have vocation to work the land, they came but they cut it and go away, leaving the land in ruins. The same, incidentally happened to cooperatives formed finger, then the settlers have destroyed everything and the lands that were fertile and productive are now almost abandoned pastures. The second reason is that there is not real water policy, political or industrial or agricultural development. As the land is barren in some areas of the country, as the bureaucratic imagination in performance. There are good experiences with respect to water supply. The best experience ever, from antiquity to the present day, is to build dams, ponds, reservoirs, wells and ponds. The opportunity for the elected is give water to their municipalities

Recalling the traditional Roman house: rainwater from roofs fell on a collector placed in the yard of the house, from which it passed to underground tanks. The system remained in use until today, the best solution before the introduction of pipes and storage tanks to supply an entire community. But just farmers can employ or a friend collects water during the winter then takes in the dry months, using pipes carrying the water that falls on the roofs to neighboring tanks. In New York, in the middle of Central Park, in the sight of all, there is a stunning lagoon that is used as a reserve to the city. The same happens with the marshes of Spain, which are reservoirs used to collect and store water during wet months, which then is used in the dry months. Winter water is placed in a kind of aqueous bank account, which are later withdrawal. It’s no mystery, no arcane science, solve a basic need: to have water for all uses.

Our founder, Don Napoleon Viera Altamirano, reservoirs resorted to repeatedly in the few farms that had: he built a covered in a river and nature did the rest of the job. Build: dams, reservoirs, wells, lakes and ponds can be the great contribution of elected mayors for their communities, considering, as noted, the absolute sterility in ideas than their predecessors showed in relation to water. By doing forward an important solution to the water problem and endow their water municipalities, fun sites, fish hatcheries, water for crops and water supply.
