Was studied the behavior and trend of rainfall in Jesus Menendez municipality in the province of Las Tunas in Cuba , for it was used 30 years time series of different pluviometres representative of the region . It wa found that the average rainfall is 1050 mm municipality , in the last decade presenting a peak in the years 2002-2004 minimum and maximum between the years 2006-2008 , so that the occurrence of extreme events could be due to the change climático.Evaluar impacts at small scales that the phenomenon causes , leads to taking action on mitigation and adaptation particularized . Studies permit assessing the problem of drought, agricultural development and irrigation schemes in the area.
The projections associated with climate change, which indicate an increase in the frequency of extreme events and the strengthening of the hydrological cycle are reasons that lead us to study and analyze the behavior and trends of rainfall in the municipality. This also shows the need to assess and identify measures that will lead to adaptation of society to those events , and thereby reduce severe impacts [ UNDP. The meteorological and agricultural drought in the Republic of Cuba and the Dominican Republic / A. B. Centella . [ et al. ] , ] . Hence the importance of assessing impacts to small scales causes this phenomenon , which leads to taking mitigation and adaptation measures particularized for the area being examined. In assessing rainfall should take into account the scale at which this phenomenon occurs , both in time and from the spatial point of view . It is appropriate to analyze this event will use a representative rainfall network for the whole territory under study , as well as long series of years. For our work we use the following rainfall network and a series of 30 years.
As will be seen in the chart below the average rainfall in 30 years this series ranges in the vicinity of 1050 mm , over the past decade showing a peak minimum and maximum 2002-2004 between the years 2006-2008 . what could be sign of the occurrence of extreme events due to climate change .Another aspect to note is the oscillation in rainfall in the first half of the series is greater the number of peaks of lower rainfall .
The graph below which compares North vs South areas shows dominance throughout the series of the greatest rainfall in the south with a historical average of 1125mm , arriving in the North only 975 mm . Showing a difference between 150mm and descending zones in the North five times a minimum, three of them to less than 50 % of the annual average .
1 – The difference in average annual rainfall in the country regarding the municipality
is 300mm .
2 – The rain is unevenly distributed both spatially and temporally . The difference between the average annual rainfall in the South and North is North unfavorable to 150mm . In the November -April period precipitated is only 38 % of the annual average of the municipality , concentrating 62% in the period from May to October .
