Hydraulic Engineering Vol. 12(2): 39- 43, Havana , Cuba (1991).
The irrigation prognostic was introduced in the country western provinces in 1980-1981 campaign, around 13100 ha ; later on it was extended to the rest of Cuba , with an area close to 196134 ha in 1987-1988 campaign. In the perennial crops, the irrigation prognostic was applied in 81254 ha in citrus and fruit trees, 57114 in pasture and forage, 15425 ha in banana plants. From cultivation of short cycles, the most irrigated are those as potato and tobacco with 11651 and 9952 ha respectively.
The irrigation prognostic is applied in an area of 61 %, compared with the state physical non sugar cane area, which is 323289 ha , without including rice. Of the 205 state enterprises with irrigation in the area not sugar cane, the forecasting irrigation is applied in 175 enterprises, representing 85% of them.
